the problem

System intervention does not prevent child abuse nor does it provide the support, financial or otherwise that families want and need to prevent and respond to interpersonal violence. Instead of supporting people who are experiencing interpersonal violence, the "child welfare system" oftentimes weaponizes a person's history of being abused against them. For parents, the family policing system often ridicules their decisions, weaponize details of their pasts, and undermine their autonomy. Negative stereotypes about people of color and poor people play a huge role in how family policing system treats these communities.

"IN 2023, CPS RECEIVED OVER 4 MILLION REPORTS. MOST OF THE PARENTS AND CHILDREN THAT ARE THE SUBJECTS OF THESE REPORTS ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR, AND NEARLY ALL ARE LOW-INCOME."

"My experience at the holiday event with B.L.U. was really wonderful when I got there, they welcomed me with open arms then me and my son took a picture. We went around and sold the different activities that they had for us to do also had lunch day as well. I will recommend anyone to come to a event and would like to say thank you to B.L.U. for everything that you are doing in the communities."

"Before attending B.L.U. events, I didn’t know such a thing as reparations existed. I found out about reparations for the first time from attending B.L.U. events! That such a thing as reparations exist made me feel a lot better. I highly recommend others to attend B.L.U. events as well."
